Contemporary structural joining methods include (1) bonding and (2) bolting. The present research will investigate the merits of combining these techniques in what is known as a bonded and bolted hybrid (HBB) joint. Although superficially simple, this is in fact a complex problem that involves geometric and material nonlinearity, multiple load paths and contact. Furthermore, failure of HBB joints is complicated and still poorly understood. Improving this understanding will constitute the main scope of the project.
